Opportunities to Practice

I've been inspired by the concept and idea behind a "practice" recently.

What is the difference between a practice, training and exercise? Where does one stop and the other start, where do they overlap?

Contemplating my training and personal practice led me to form an idea around this. While I am aware this may differ for people slightly, I have come to believe the following:

My Training consists of clear goals and usually happens at a certain time and place.

I train Partner Acrobatics and have a few moves in mind that I am eagerly working towards. I have an upcoming training on coaching techniques & skills which enables me to specialise in a specific field.

My Practice is a regular check in and focuses on priming my body towards longevity. Ensuring sustainability in what I love doing, whether that is my training or hobbies.

In order to train, stay focused and injury free - I ensure I have a regular movement practice that helps me check in with my self. I counter the weight from my training, loosen up and strengthen the areas that I'll benefit from to allow my body to stay or move towards a state of equilibrium

I often say - "most people know more about their car than their own body"; and some people certainly look after their cars, devices and gadgets better than after themselves.

Let's start giving our Selves just as much attention and care if not more.

I ask myself - In order to live well, achieve my goals and not run on an empty tank - what do I need to do?

My goal has always been to stay light, nimble, fast and also strong, capable, coordinated and mobile. I aim towards a foundational practice that allows me to feel confident and motivated to use and embrace my body in different ways.

Oftentimes in our training, whether martial arts, dance, acrobatics, calisthenics, we eventually tend to almost sacrifice or neglect health to attain the goal. A regular movement practice like touched upon above then allows the shift towards purification and nourishment for the Self that enables one to train and learn and grow as life goes on.

This is why we practice at Kalila instead of training.

Allowing a space for nourishment and regeneration.

Softening the bodies that have hardened through life and/or training.

Building strong bodies and minds for those who are inspired to invest in their health.

A holistic practice that focuses on inner and outer work to upgrade physical, mental, emotional and spiritual states.

Practice with Intention.
